Synopsis
Avery Hayes is the heir to Los Angeles’ powerful Hayes family. Born into immense wealth, she has long dreamed of building an equal, stable home through marriage. During her three‑year‑long relationship with Ethan Parker, she covered the Parkers’ housing, vehicles, tuition, living expenses and startup loans, repeatedly tolerating Ethan’s blind obedience to his mother Helen. On their wedding day, Helen spills red wine across her ivory‑white high‑heeled shoes and demands Avery kneel and wipe them clean with her wedding veil, citing so‑called Parker family traditions. Ethan knew of the demand in advance, yet pressures Avery to comply for the sake of “family harmony.” Avery appears to kneel, only to seize the silver ice bucket brimming with ice, ice water and champagne and dump its entire contents over Helen’s head. To defend his mother, Ethan slaps Avery hard across the face in full view of the guests. That single slap shatters every illusion Avery held about marriage. She calls off the wedding on the spot and immediately initiates divorce proceedings alongside full asset recovery. Supported by her parents Richard and Diane, family member Logan, and her attorney Caleb Morgan, Avery avoids petty public arguments. Instead, she systematically dismantles the Parkers’ parasitic hold by going through property deeds and financial records item by item. She returns wedding gifts she had never formally accepted, revokes the Parkers’ access to Hayes‑owned bank accounts, vehicles and assets.
