The Grievances of a Daughter Married Afar

Synopsis

Shen Mengyao, daughter of the wealthiest family, abandons her status for love to marry Zhuang Shixian, a rural man previously married. Her mother, Lin Jie, reluctantly agrees to a 5-year pact: if they remain happily married, she will accept the son-in-law and entrust the family business to them. Initially hopeful, Mengyao faces domestic abuse, financial ruin, and her mother-in-law's disdain for birthing a girl. Regretful and ashamed, Mengyao suffers in silence. When the 5-year deadline arrives, Lin Jie disguises herself as a villager to attend her granddaughter's hundred-day banquet, discovers her daughter's misery, and resolves to bring Zhuang Shixian to justice.
