Synopsis
Twenty-nine years ago, nine colossal machines shut down the sky. Since then, not a single drop of rain has fallen on the wasteland. At seven years old, Mia worshipped a broken machine named Kilo as her god. Eleven years later, she finally awakens him, only to uncover a devastating truth: Kilo was the machine that carried out the final command to end the rain. Determined to reclaim the sky, Mia journeys across poisoned wells, fuel cities, and a glass-walled metropolis in search of the last surviving counterstrain. But rain is no simple salvation. If it falls too soon, the Black Bloom buried beneath the earth will spread through the water and consume every surviving settlement. Helix, the regime that controls the weather, uses this very real threat to justify twenty-nine years of absolute rule, turning water, air, and even machine intelligence into instruments of obedience. Now Mia must decide whether to place the world in the hands of another god, or give ordinary people the power to choose their own future. And Kilo must answer a question no machine was ever meant to ask: If obedience can save the majority, does a machine still have the right to say no?
