Synopsis
Office worker Lin Xiao starts a new life with her husband, Zhang Lei, in their newly built home. But Zhang Lei’s mother, Wang Guilan, comes from the countryside to the city without warning and forces her way into their home. Clinging to old-fashioned values, her mother-in-law interferes in everything within their small household, from chores and finances to privacy and child-rearing. Zhang Lei is gentle but hopelessly attached to his mother. He runs from the conflict between his wife and mother, always asking Lin Xiao to endure. After pregnancy and childbirth, clashes over diet and parenting reach a breaking point. A major crisis erupts when his mother uses an outdated folk remedy to treat the baby’s fever, sending the child to the emergency room. Both families collide at the hospital. Zhang Lei still refuses to take responsibility. Lin Xiao’s heart breaks, and she takes the child back to her parents’ home, beginning a separation. During their time apart, each person reflects on their mistakes. Zhang Lei handles housework and childcare alone, finally recognizing his blind filial obedience and irresponsibility. He resolves to protect his family. His mother, living alone, also realizes how excessively controlling she has been and how little she respected boundaries. Lin Xiao understands that their conflict comes not from malice, but from differences between generations. Zhang Lei offers a sincere apology, and his mother puts aside her pride to apologize as well. The three establish household rules covering finances, parenting, and privacy, promising to respect boundaries instead of demanding one-sided compromise. After overcoming trials such as his younger sister’s money demands and his mother’s illness, they build a genuine family rooted in mutual care. The End.
