Synopsis

One moment, an ordinary modern man lives a normal life. Next, he wakes on a cracked prehistoric plain—four million years too early, covered in fur, weighing only thirty-one kilos, and about to become a vulture’s meal. A mysterious Civilization System gives him an impossible mission: build a society that can survive for one million years. Offered fangs, claws, intelligence, or upright walking, he chooses the two upgrades that look least heroic—and may change history most. With no weapon, shelter, or tribe, he survives by thinking instead of fighting. He befriends Scout, an injured wild canine; rescues Brock, a giant abandoned beneath a fallen tree; and clashes with Fang, an old leader who trusts strength, and Ivy, a healer who trusts evidence. Together they discover fire, bows, stone axes, fences, clothing, pottery, clean water, medicine, and the hardest technology of all: cooperation. Every breakthrough brings a greater disaster. Hyenas circle the fire. A leopard claims the only safe cave. A collapsing roof buries Fang. A migration stampede splits the group. A brutal cold front drives fifteen survivors toward a cliffside den, while a saber-toothed tiger studies every trap they build. Worse, the System rewards nothing until others can repeat the knowledge without the hero’s help. To become Chief, he must stop being the cleverest survivor and teach everyone to survive without him. By civilization’s first day, his people have fire, tools, rules
