Fortune Behind the Smile

Synopsis

Anne, a gentle, unsuspecting 50-year-old single mother and homebody, spends her days baking homemade scones for neighbors. She loses every penny and her family home after mortgaging it to fund her ungrateful son’s wedding. Then her cruel new daughter-in-law tricks her into donating a kidney, leaving Anne homeless, adrift, and utterly alone in a sprawling modern city. One bright afternoon on her neighborhood walking path, Anne hands out stacks of fresh-baked scones from her canvas bag. Rebecca, a glowing, smiling young blonde socialite, stops to chat, gushes over Anne’s baking, insists they exchange social media handles, and says she wants to introduce Anne to her kind, hardworking single father.
