Drought Angel

Synopsis

Texas, 1930s. An unprecedented drought and famine leave the land cracked and families starving. Five-year-old Flora, orphaned and treated as dead weight by her cruel aunt Sybil, is nearly sold to a circus. Clara, a kind single mother, trades her family’s last two pounds of flour to save Flora and brings her into the impoverished Miller home. Flora can understand animals. A field mouse leads her to hidden corn; a supposedly worthless hen lays thirty eggs at the market. Flora later saves physician Lucas’s dog, restores ruined ginseng, and rescues heir Leonard. Jealous Sybil frames Flora for murder, leaving Daniel tortured. Leonard exposes the truth. Flora studies medicine, forgives Lily, and becomes a beacon of hope.
